Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton will not seek re-election

Barren County Sheriff

Barren County Sheriff Chris Eaton will not seek re-election when his current term expires at the end of 2014.

He told WBKO today the federal charges against him had nothing to do with his decision.

Eaton and two deputies are accused of using excessive force during an arrest in 2010 and later lying about it to the FBI.

Their trial is set for December 3rd.

Eaton says he had already decided not to run in 2014 before the federal charges, but he did say the meth lab that exploded in his face in 2010 has caused him serious health problems.

He suffered arsenic poisoning in April of 2010 and ammonia poisoning in his kidney, liver, and intestine last month.

Eaton says he may open a barbecue restaurant or become an usher for the Cincinnati Reds when he retires.

Cave City, Ky: Meth Bust

Staff report Glasgow Daily Times

GLASGOW — At approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday the Barren-Edmonson Drug Task Force and the Barren County Sheriff’s office responded to assist Cave City Police on a possible meth lab at 301 Owen St.

Cave City Police had active warrants for Paul Travis Buley of 301 Owen St. The police found components of a methamphetamine lab and contacted the DTF and sheriff’s office.

Consent to search was given and officers found four shake and bake meth labs along with chemicals and equipment used to manufacture meth, finished meth, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside and outside of the residence. Buley admitted that he made meth and stated that he had just injected meth with rat poison.

Cave City EMS and the ambulance service were contacted. Buley had to be decontaminated and was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital. Buley was checked by medical personnel and was later released. He was transferred to the Barren County Detention Center and charged with the outstanding warrants and with manufacturing meth. More charges are pending.

The Barren-Edmonson Drug Task Force wants to remind the citizens of Barren and Edmonson County that if they suspected someone is manufacturing meth or find suspicious items on the roadway to contact the DTF at 270-629-2588 or contact the Barren or Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office.
